Congratulations! After multiple job searches, applications and updates, you finally have your next upcoming job interview! This may not be your first experience answering questions to a potential boss, but this definitely is one of the most important as it will mark a specific before and after in your life.

So now that you have the official time and date for your interview, what comes next? Your attire mi reina, your attire! Remember that what you wear to an interview communicates enormously to the entire job application experience.

As you think about all the formal skirts, or pants, nice blouses, blazers and heels you have in your closet, remember to ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Do I feel comfortable in this outfit? – If you feel awkward or uncomfortable in what you are wearing, that feeling will definitely be noticeable to the very people you are trying to impress. Additionally, it can also negatively affect your confidence as the interview progresses. Dress to impress, but make sure to feel good in what you’re wearing!
  2. What vibe/feeling does my clothing give off? Is it a feeling of confidence? Is it a feeling of party fever, and I’m going to the club after this interview? That being said, It’s ok to add a piece of your own personality into your wardrobe. Just remember there is a time and place for everything, focus on what you want to transmit, which is; being responsible and respectable for the position you are interviewing for.
  3. Would my familia/amigas approve?  We all have a specific family member or friend who is always telling us to echarle ganas, and work hard. What do you think they would say about your outfit? Would they be cheering you on? Or would they be helping you find another outfit?

Tambien, a big tip I have for you all is to make sure your clothes are ironed, it gives a clearer and more professional look to your attire.

Make sure that before during and after your not only prepare your interview outfit, and potential interview questions, that you are hyping yourself up and surrounding yourself with the positive energy you need to have that job interview in the bag! As the mujeres fuertes that we are, we need to remember that we have all the potential in the world to push ourselves forward, grow and preserver.

As the saying goes “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” I hope these tips have helped you feel confident enough in walking into that interview knowing the best qualities you bring to the table. Buena suerte in your job interview!
